Using flatbed scanners for small originals and a medium format digital camera for larger pieces, we are equipped to handle sizes from one inch up to an extra large eight feet wide.

Color Match

All artwork capture goes through a color managed workflow including a final color match to the original using a controlled-light viewing booth by our technicians.

Print

After your artwork has been captured, choose from our extensive selection of fine art giclee papers, or have your work reproduced on canvas, metal, or wood.

Sunflower and Color Checker Small for We

All artwork capture is done at our Park Ave location in our dedicated reproduction studio that includes flat artwork storage racks and both a flat copystand and a large wall-mounted easel. We regularly work with a wide variety of common art media, and our capture services are also a great way to get highest quality scans of other flat documents such as maps, historical documents, and heirlooms.

Most flat items can be digitized, including framed pieces or artwork on thick mounts. If you have an unusually mounted or sized piece, or originals with special handling requirements, please contact us. We are happy to work with you.

House of Boys

"As an emerging artist in Santa Cruz, California, Bay Photo Park Ave has helped me start my online business by photographing my acrylic abstract paintings with high resolution photo pro captures. I now sell prints of my paintings globally because of these amazing captures that I use to print out large and small giclée prints."

Using acrylic paint on canvas, Caryn creates abstract landscapes, abstract botanicals, or pure abstract expressionist paintings focusing primarily on color rather than form in her studio in Santa Cruz, California.

Giclée Prints & More

Whether you want to make archival copies of your watercolors on a matching paper or want to have your drawing enlarged and printed on glossy sheet of metal, we have options for every artist.

We work with artists of all experience levels and are just as happy to help a professional place an order for an upcoming exhibition as we are to help a new artist explore the different options for putting together their first show. There can be an overwhelming amount of choices when it comes to reproducing your work so we make the process easy by guiding you toward the most appropriate options for your style and budget.

What is a giclée print?

A term often used in the world of artwork reproduction is giclée or giclée print. What are they and what makes them different than other types of prints? In the early 90s, the term giclée was coined to describe a new process being used to create high quality art prints with inkjet printers. The word comes from the French word meaning "to spray" which describes how modern fine art printers spray ink onto the surface of the paper with thousands of tiny nozzles. There is no officially regulated standard for what is considered a giclée print but the most common modern interpretation is a reproduction of artwork using a high end inkjet printer using archival inks and papers or canvas. All of Bay Photo's Fine Art and Canvas prints are gicleé prints.

Popular Options

Fine Art Papers

Traditional giclée inkjet prints using archival inks on heavy art papers. Papers come in all sizes and have a variety of surface textures so that you can chose one that most closely matches your original piece. We print on many popular papers from brands such as Canson, Hahnemuhle, and Epson, and have samples available in-store so you can get a close up feel for the tooth and white point of each stock.

Art Cards

Press printed cards in a variety of sizes with folding and postcard style options. Many artists get their work printed onto cards as a way to make their art accessible to clients who may not be able to purchase a large reproduction. They are also a popular choice for artists who sell at art fairs or who want to create advertising cards for specific shows or events. All card orders come with envelopes and can be printed on a variety of press printed paper stocks including semi-gloss, glossy UV coated, pearl metallic, linen, and watercolor. Unique to our press printed options is the availability of recycled "green" papers.

Canvas

Your artwork printed directly onto canvas and either stretched onto a wooden frame or provided unstretched. Having your work reproduced on canvas is a great way to sell a painting multiple times or have it made to a certain size to fit a client's need. The true canvas texture and vivid pigment inks used for printing make these the closest option for reproducing oil and acrylic.

Dream Prints

Vivid prints on a choice of papers that includes photo surfaces (lustre, glossy, deep matte) and an art surface (Dream Print Fine Art which has a completely matte, smooth surface) Dream prints come in sizes up to 12x24" and are great alternative to Fine Art prints if you are looking to offer more affordable small print options to your clients. Dream Prints are a great balance between the ultimate quality of Fine Art prints and the economic price of Photographic Prints.

Metal Prints

Beautiful and durable prints of your art made by sublimating your image onto the surface of a sheet of aluminum. With a variety of surface finishes including high gloss, satin, and textured, Metal Prints are a clean and modern way to reproduce your art that is ready to hang on the wall. Their durability also lends them to being packaged and transported to art shows and fairs where they can be easily wiped before display.

Photographic Prints

Prints made on a variety of standard photo stocks. These prints are created using a wet chemical process and are traditionally used for printing photographs but can also be a good option for printing artwork as well. Available with lustre, glossy, matte, and metallic finishes, photographic prints are the most affordable way to get quality prints of your artwork. Certain bright colors don't always reproduce accurately compared to Fine Art or Dream Prints so please consult with us when you order about which type of print is best for you.
